Acorns is seeking a Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting Senior Accountant to be responsible for the preparation of internal financial statements, and SEC financial statements and disclosures. Strong GAAP experience is a must as the Senior Accountant will also assist in technical accounting research to ensure proper accounting treatment for complex transactions and all new accounting pronouncements are adopted in accordance with accounting standards. In addition, the Senior Accountant will work with the external auditors to support the review of quarterly and annual filings, and third-party consultants for valuation and other services as needed.

This role will report directly to the Director, will be a critical member of the accounting team, and will work cross-functionally with the finance department and other department leaders.

This role has the option to be remote or based in our Irvine, CA or New York, NY offices.

Within 1 month, you will:

  • Introduce yourself and become integrated with the Acorns team
  • Build a deep understanding of our products and business economics
  • Understand the current external and internal reporting processes
  • Familiarize yourself with previous technical accounting positions

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Prepare monthly financial reporting package
  • Prepare financial statements and disclosure (and related tie-outs) for SEC reporting, including 10Q/Ks and 8Ks
  • Perform technical accounting research, prepare accounting memos, and conclude on accounting positions for new accounting standards and complex transactions in accordance with GAAP
  • Complete disclosure checklists to ensure all disclosures requirements
  • Identify and implement controls where gaps exist within the financial reporting and technical accounting processes
  • Support the external audit requests throughout the financial statement review process
  • Work with third party consultants used for M&A valuation and other services
  • Collaborate with accounting, finance, and other department leaders on external stakeholder financial communications

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Work cross-functionally to advance the external financial reporting process
  • Automate and streamline monthly/SEC reporting and related processes
  • Establish quarterly reporting cadence, and maintain a financial reporting calendar and internal PBC List for quarterly and annual reporting
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls as it pertains to financial reporting
  • Complete special projects as needed and other duties assigned

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • BS in Accounting
  • 3-5 years of professional accounting experience.
  • CPA required
  • Big four experience highly desired
  • Financial reporting experience with a public company preferred.
  • Working knowledge of automated financial and reporting systems highly desired (Workiva WDesk, Cube Software)
  • Prior experience with an ERP system preferred (NetSuite)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions on complex issues
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently, but unafraid to ask questions
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Driven to learn fast, be creative, and win as a team
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner
