Acorns is seeking a Senior Accountant to help manage the day to day and month-end accounting processes for the organization. This role will report directly to the Accounting Manager and work to develop and implement new processes to help address risks while allowing for scalability in the finance department.

This role has the option to be remote or based in our Irvine, CA or New York, NY offices.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Performing and reviewing month-end reconciliations for balance sheet accounts.
  • Preparing and analyzing monthly fluctuations in P&L and balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare information needed for SOX audits, external audit and tax packages
  • Documenting key accounting processes and performing related accounting operation controls.
  • Performing other accounting and financial ad-hoc reporting as directed.

Within 1 month, you will:

  • Introduce and integrate yourself to team members
  • Familiarize yourself with current accounting systems and processes.
  • Learn about the company’s product offerings.
  • Learn about the fundamentals of Acorns mission and vision.
  • Get familiar with department objectives and key results.

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Implement processes and procedures for identified areas of risk and where control gaps exist
  • Review reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and analyze income statement accounts
  • Train and coach the staff to set them up for success and growth opportunities
  • Contribute to audit preparation, record keeping and paperless document control
  • Manage the month-end close process to ensure tasks are completed timely for review
  • Assist with tax returns and other tax filings
  • Complete special projects as needed and other duties assigned
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments across the organization

Within 12 months, you will:

  • Be able to design and implement processes and procedures to continue to make the department more efficient and scalable
  • Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • BS in Accounting or Finance with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • 3-4 years of professional accounting experience. Big Four experience highly desired. CPA preferred
  • Prior experience with an ERP system preferred (NetSuite, Intacct, Great Plains, SAP)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently, but unafraid to ask questions
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Driven to learn fast, be creative, and win as a team
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner
