Job Description

Lightstep enables teams to detect and resolve regressions quickly, regardless of system scale or complexity. We integrate seamlessly into daily workflows, whether you are proactively optimizing performance or investigating a root cause so you can quickly get back to building features. We continue to grow our talented, low-ego, team! We believe that we should always align our actions toward a common purpose, that trust is paramount and must be cultivated, that the most valuable team members multiply rather than add, and that we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously (except when we’re writing way-too-long sentences about our values). We believe that assembling and retaining an inclusive and diverse team is the best way to grow a successful company.

We created Lightstep because we understand the massive architectural transformation underway in the software industry, and we saw an opportunity to accelerate it, all while improving the quality of the developer and end-user experience. While we learned a great deal from our experiences building Dapper (Google’s distributed tracing solution) and Monarch (Google’s high-availability metrics solution), Lightstep is in many ways a reaction to and a generational improvement beyond those approaches. Our story as individuals and as a company revolves around continuous learning, careful listening, and the belief that these fundamentally new software architectures require fundamentally new solutions.

As a Product Program Manager, you’ll help us support the success of cross-functional Product programs and deliver the most successful product launches. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) you have a seat at the leadership table. You will partner with Product and Design Leadership (i.e., Head of Design, Heads of Product, Group Product Managers, and Outbound Product Managers) to own and iterate on Lightstep’s Product Roadmap, Release, and Feedback programs and processes. This requires close collaboration with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership as well as Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success leadership to maximize the impact of our Product Releases. In addition, this role will work very closely with the Technical Program Manager to make sure that there is alignment between the Product and Engineering programs in that they sum together to a repeatable set of programs that maximize the continual impact on the Observability market. We're looking for someone excited to join a growing team that looks to automate, simplify and systemically solve problems to scale themselves as well as the organization.

You’d be a great addition if...

  • You seek to understand both the product and business aspects of the business.
  • You are well organized and an excellent verbal and written communicator.
  • You have a track record of delivering complex product programs that involve multiple cross-functional teams.
  • You’d enjoy working in a cross-functional org alongside inbound and outbound product managers, engineering managers, product designers, as well as Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing leadership.
  • You enjoy developing and holding a broad and holistic picture to ensure that all the pieces come together with no gaps.
  • You are comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and seek to bring clarity.
  • You’re motivated by high-impact projects, whether they’re open-ended explorations or immediate practical needs, that drive a business's bottom line.
  • You value empathy as much, if not more than intelligence in your teammates .

Bonus points if...

  • You’ve worked with distributed teams across multiple time zones.
  • You’ve worked as a Product Manager.
  • You have experience outside of Product: marketing, sales, design, management, etc.
  • You enjoy giving talks, and/or doing community-building work.
