Overview

The CNC Machine Operator II is responsible for the set-up, operation and maintenance CNC machines, manual machining and the training of CNC Machine Operators. Manual machines include lathes, vertical mills and drill presses. Must have the ability to perform work accordingly to specifications and company quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient in the use and basic maintenance of CNC Lathe or CNC Vertical Mill including 4th axis operation as well as 3 axis milling; this includes comprehension of either lathe or mill tool touch off procedure with understanding of tool compensation and wear offsets to deliver product within specification.
  • Responsible for the changeover of product with basic set up including work holding fixtures, stops, datum offsets and indicators. Monitors wear conditions on all cutting tools to determine replacement frequency.
  • Ensures work area, machine tooling and parts are cleaned regularly and free from excess oil deposits; maintains coolant and machine lubrication fluid systems, must use a refractometer.
  • Receives work orders and verifies that the components are correct. Regularly meets or exceeds production quotas.
  • Participates in activities related to new product development and implementation into production.
  • Trains CNC Machine Operators on machinery. Proposes continuous improvement opportunities for all processes. Will document and submit to management all necessary revisions to Work Order Routings, Work Instructions and Quality Inspection documentation.
  • Proficient in the use of all types of inspection equipment including: verniers, gauges, optical equipment, comparator, mandrel, calipers etc. in order to ensure machined part accuracy. Confidently signing off true dimension checks against prints.
  • Operator must perform first piece and in-process inspection of product after set-up is completed for assurance of quality, dimensional accuracy, and aesthetics; minimizing scrap and defective product.
  • Operates various secondary and special purpose machines including drill presses and trademarking fixtures and mechanical presses along with performing deburring product and chip cleaning operations.
  • Collaborates with management to identify root cause of problems without supervision and notifies CNC Machinist or Programmer of issues and updates for improvements.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of machining experience on CNC equipment and related degree or equivalent combination of both
  • Set-up, use and basic maintenance of CNC and both milling and turning machines
  • Train CNC Operators
  • Escalating issues to CNC Machinist or Programmer
  • Complies with lean standards of manufacturing
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to select tools and materials for the job and plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprint and work instructions
  • Excellent attention to detail, specifically regarding quality and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently in a high volume, fast paced work atmosphere
  • Ability to work overtime as scheduled
  • High School diploma or equivalent
