Director of Finance, Learning Services

About the Role

The Director of Finance for Learning Services is responsible for providing strategic and financial insights for decision-making and rigorous performance monitoring for our growing digital services i.e., Chegg Study, Chegg Math Solver, and Chegg Study Pack, domestically and internationally.

The Director partners with leaders across the organization who value the impact and influence Finance and Business Analytics bring to the table. Key partners include the Product, PMO, Content, Marketing, Engineering, and Operations organizations in addition to Corporate Finance and Controllership.

The Director reports to the Vice-President of Finance, Learning Services, and leads a team consisting of business analysts and financial analysts, who collaborate actively to deliver quality recommendations to our business partners. Our business analysts have deep mastery of data, tools, and techniques in order to analyze key business drivers impacting our performance. Our financial analysts bring financial acumen and process rigor to develop complex financial models and/or deliver timely, accurate, and reliable plans, forecasts, and performance reporting.

The Director is also an advocate for process improvements and sustainable, long-term growth for Chegg. The Director is comfortable in a fast-paced and high-growth environment, sees possibilities rather than challenges, and is passionate about transforming processes, systems, and deliverables in Finance and across Chegg.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own business and financial analytics by assessing the performance of key business model drivers, such as acquisitions, retention, attach, traffic and conversion. Assess and model implications to revenue and margins and co-develop with leaders recommendations to deliver on financial goals and commitments.
• Drive the end-to-end process and associated deliverables related to financial planning, forecasting, and performance reporting domestically and internationally.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to map strategies to operational and financial plans and develop and communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure
• Communicate and elevate performance, risks, and opportunities and interact with Senior and Executive leaders, including but not limited to the CEO, CFO, and President, Learning Services.
• Engage with the PMO, Product, and Engineering organizations in the roadmap planning process to provide guidance and assess the reasonableness of the financial impact of planned initiatives.
• Support life-cycle management initiatives launched by business partners in Product, Marketing, and Operations with the goal of improving lifetime value (LTV), acquisition costs (CAC), customer churn, and retention.
• Work with Corporate Finance, Controllership, and Investor Relations to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information and disclosures externally.
• Participate in due diligence and/or integration of M&A targets as needed in partnership with our Corporate Development and Strategy team.
• Hire, motivate and develop a team of business and financial analysts of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Know and be an advocate for the team during performance and compensation discussions with leadership.
• Drive continuous improvement in Analytics and Finance by leveraging data and tools to improve the quality of business and financial information and the efficiency of our operational processes.

Desired Experience and Skills:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in Finance, Analytics, Business Intelligence, and/or equivalent experience in technology, eCommerce, or content/media organization
• Strong financial modeling experience and/or deep understanding of how key business drivers affect a company’s financial performance
• Ability to navigate through ambiguity, prioritize and manage multiple deliverables in periods of high-pressure and tight deadlines
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills to build relationships, influence and inspire stakeholders
• Excellent people management skills and the ability to lead to a diverse range of employees
• Experience in financial transformations (data, systems/tools, processes) desired
