Job Purpose

National Grid is building a new team, ngDigital, to provide best-in-class digital delivery. The Digital team will comprise of two hubs, one in the US (Boston) and one in the UK (Birmingham) and will build digital products that create strategic value in a fast and agile manner. In addition to creating digital products, the ngDigital hubs are talent incubators that will disseminate digital capabilities and culture within National Grid.

The General Manager of ngDigital is a digital leader, providing vision, direction, and day to day management of one of the regional hubs. The General Manager will be responsible for all deliverables the ngDigital hub, managing senior (Exec Level) stakeholders and creating a pipeline of future work.

At high level this will include strategic planning, resource management, developing processes and tools, overseeing progress, monitoring and mitigating risks, providing transparency to senior executives, escalating issues as needed and stakeholder management (at regional executive team level)

Key Accountabilities
  • Leads with a strategic mindset while dealing with ambiguity and develop, nurture and realize business opportunities
  • Provides leadership and direction for ngDigital team members
  • Recruits, retains and develops digital talent within the ngDigital regional hub
  • Oversees and runs the hack-a-future ideation events, and is accountable for the delivery of all subsequent digital outputs
  • Oversees development and revision of ngDigital's methodologies, BMS standards and tools/templates
  • Monitors and mitigates program risk/issues through maintenance of Program Tracker
  • Provides line of sight and exception-based transparency to senior executives (Digital Board, Executive Sponsors) on program progress
  • Proactively mitigate business, operational & governance risks.
  • Escalates critical issues as required
  • Conducts continuous improvement initiatives
  • Keeps a pulse on all Digital concepts, maintaining an up-to-date view and understanding of progress, risks, etc.
  • Co-owns enterprise-wide change programs as they interact with ngDigital
  • Works with HRBP to ensure concepts have the resources they need on the dates the need them
  • Meets periodically with Product Owners, Agile Catalysts and other Digital workers to ensure that Digital is supported in the business units.
  • Provides expert guidance to all functional areas, including engineering, strategy, operations, sales & product.
  • Cultivates a high-performing, agile, one-team culture
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
  • Inspire the business and lead the innovation team.
  • Develop, motivate and manage a team of innovation professionals.
  • Build strong relationships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science/Numerical/Management
  • Experience working in a Digital environment and senior level is essential.
  • Sufficient leadership credibility and authority to work with the organisations senior leaders and oversight committees
  • Substantial technology and product delivery experience
  • Strong communication and management skills
  • Able and willing champion of change
  • Proven commercial acumen and financial knowledge
  • Proven track record of building successful digital products and high calibre, multi-disciplinary teams from the ground up
  • Tech/Digital/Start Up and Agile background desirable
